Meet the Founder

Janaé Sonko has been traveling to Senegal and The Gambia for nearly a decade, building deep connections with the people and culture. After spending extended periods of time living in West Africa, she witnessed first hand both the beauty of the community and the challenges women and children face daily.

Motivated by her experiences as a mother and advocate, Janaè turned her passion into action by creating Dreams Across Waters. Her vision is rooted in love, resilience, and the belief that even small acts of giving can create a lasting impact. By bridging her African American heritage with her West African ties, she works to uplift communities while inspiring others to join in this mission of care and empowerment.

Janaé M Sonko - Founder

"Dreams Across Waters is dedicated to supporting women and children in Senegal and The Gambia through compassion-driven programs that meet both immediate needs and long-term well-being. We provide clothing, care packages, and essential resources, while also educating families on malaria prevention and health practices that save lives."

Empowering Women and Children

We’re a small nonprofit with a big heart, working to support women and children in Senegal and The Gambia. We collect and send gently used clothing, care packages, and helpful resources to families who need a little extra support. Our goal is to make life a little easier, whether that’s with clean clothes, hygiene items, or malaria prevention education. We believe everyone deserves to feel cared for, no matter where they are in the world. One package at a time, we’re spreading love, comfort, and hope across the ocean.
